New DFG Priority Programme Investigates Viruses and Their Host Cells

Jülich, 3 June 2020 – Prof. Julia Frunzke from Forschungszentrum Jülich's Biotechnology institute is coordinating one of 14 new Priority Programmes that the German Research Foundation (DFG) is setting up in 2020. The aim of the new programme is to use state-of-the-art methods to investigate virus–host interactions in prokaryotes – cellular organisms whose cells lack a nucleus – both on the single cell level and within the context of microbial communities. The 14 new Priority Programmes will receive a total of roughly € 85 million for an initial three-year period.
