Weather Extremes: Research in the Right Place at the Right Time
Jülich, 13 September 2017 – After a drought lasting several months, parts of Italy have seen a deluge of rain in the past few days, flooding roads and devastating entire villages. Jülich soil and climate researchers together with scientists from eight other Helmholtz institutes are investigating how dynamic short-term events such as heat waves or torrential rain are interrelated with Earth and environmental systems. Over the next five years, they will jointly establish a flexible and mobile measuring system for Earth observation entitled MOSES (Modular Observation Solutions for Earth Systems).
