Discover exciting career opportunities at one of Europe’s largest research institutions.
We are always on the lookout for new colleagues to take on the various tasks in the area of science management. Shaping change: this is what drives us at Forschungszentrum Jülich. As a member of the Helmholtz Association with around 7,400 employees, we conduct interdisciplinary research into a digitalized society, a climate-friendly energy system, and a sustainable economy. Our research in the natural, life, and engineering sciences is focused on the fields of information, energy, and the bioeconomy. We combine this with expertise in high-performance computing and artificial intelligence using unique scientific infrastructures.
At Forschungszentrum Jülich, we see science management as an integrated process that supports the effective planning, organization, and implementation of research projects and activities. It acts as a bridge between administration and science, supports the scientists and frees them up for other tasks, and encourages cooperation between different institutes and divisions as well as with external partners.
In a science management role at Forschungszentrum Jülich, you will work in the following areas:
Project management
Science managers coordinate scientific and administrative programmes and projects, both internally and in cooperation with external partners. This includes the provision of support for national and international research projects, as well as for programmes to improve administrative processes and workflows.
Support for committees and working groups
Science management at Forschungszentrum Jülich includes the provision of support for internal and external committees and working groups. This includes preparation and follow-up work for meetings as well as the maintenance of contact with committee members and participating organizations.
Strategic planning and implementation of funding measures
A core task within science management is to identify suitable external funding measures to support Jülich scientists and to monitor the implementation of these measures. As a science manager, you will also develop internal funding strategies to support doctoral researchers and postdocs, for example, as well as to promote international collaboration.
Strategy development
Science managers contribute to the strategic development of Forschungszentrum Jülich by supporting strategic processes, leading internal consultation processes, and advising the institutes on strategic issues. They are also responsible for strategic controlling and for the communication of strategic topics.
If you want to work at the heart of where excellent research is conducted, and if your strengths lie in project management, then you are ideally suited to a role in science management. You will need strong communication and coordination skills as well as experience in working on scientific projects.
Your role will comprise the following tasks:
Service role: You will provide scientists the freedom to perform other tasks as well as providing support for committees and working groups.
Interfacing role: You will coordinate and support interfaces within your organizational unit and Forschungszentrum Jülich as a whole as well as with external partners from politics and society.
