Ash Cloud Measurements Now Possible
Jülich researchers equipped with measuring instruments are already in Northern Germany
Jülich, 24 May 2011 – Sometime this evening, the ash cloud from Iceland is set to reach the German coast at the Bay of Kiel. Scientists from Jülich are on site and can determine the cloud's vertical dimensions and progress over time using ground-based measuring instruments. Starting tomorrow, measurement flights are planned together with scientists from the University of Mainz. Measuring instruments from the German National Meteorological Service will also be on board.
