Dutch Ambassador Visits Forschungszentrum Jülich
Jülich, 1 June 2011 – The Ambassador to Germany of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Marnix Krop, visited Forschungszentrum Jülich on 1 June. Professor Sebastian M. Schmidt, member of the Board of Directors of Forschungszentrum Jülich, welcomed the ambassador. A key priority of the visit was the topic of brain research. Together with Consul-General Dr. Henk Voskamp and Honorary Consul Prof. Dr. Helmut W. Breuer, the ambassador learned about the virtual brain, which is the subject of ongoing work by Jülich scientists, collaboration with the University of Maastricht in the field of magnetic resonance imaging (ultrahigh-field imaging), and also cooperation with RWTH Aachen University as part of JARA, the Jülich Aachen Research Alliance. "I am impressed by the wide variety of research at Jülich. I am therefore very pleased that Jülich is cooperating closely with scientific partners in the Netherlands, for example on brain research in Maastricht or energy research in Eindhoven," said the ambassador after his visit. Marnix Krop has been the Dutch ambassador in Berlin since 2009, having previously been ambassador to Poland and Belarus.
