New Book on Ion Beam Therapy

"Ion Beam Therapy - Fundamentals, Technology, Clinical Applications"

12.01.2012 – A monograph on the application of ion beams in the treatment of cancer has been published by Springer. The editor is the Jülich scientist Dr. Ute Linz from the Institute of Complex Systems, Molecular Biophysics (ICS-5). The book comprises 729 pages with contributions by 75 international experts from a range of disciplines. Topics include basic aspects of this form of treatment, the present state of the art and clinical applications of ion beams. The special feature of ion beam therapy, which causes relatively few side effects, is that tumours can be selectively targeted thus protecting healthy tissue.
