Safety Research at Annual Funfair in Düren

Jülich/Düren, 28 July 2014 – Scientists from the BaSiGo project are once again at work at the annual funfair in Düren, known as the Annakirmes, in order to collect data on safety at large public events. Thomas Rachel, member of the Bundestag, Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister of Education and Research, was there on Friday when the project partners, including scientists from Forschungszentrum Jülich, undertook a dummy run with the sirens. Together with the funfair operators and vendors and the emergency services, scientists from the University of Siegen tested the warning equipment and safety drills before the fair began in order to run through what would happen if the event had to be temporarily shut down, for example due to an imminent storm.
