Young Scientists Improve Method for Producing High-Quality Synthetic Graphene
Jülich, 3 August 2015 – Scientists from RWTH Aachen University and Forschungszentrum Jülich have developed a new method for producing ultrahigh-quality graphene on a large scale. The fabrication method is based on the established process of chemical vapour deposition (CVD), decisive features of which were refined by the researchers thus avoiding contamination of the graphene produced and making it possible to reuse the copper employed in the process. The project presented by the 23-year-old physics student Luca Banszerus and his colleagues in the journal Science Advances came into being as part of the Jülich Aachen Research Alliance (JARA). It was financed by funds from the European Commission for the Graphene Flagship project as well as from the ERC Starting Grant for Prof. Christoph Stampfer from RWTH Aachen University.
