New Approach for Drugs Combating Helicobacter pylori
Jülich, 26 January 2017 – More than 50 % of the world’s population carry the bacterium Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) in their stomach. This infection is also common in Germany and can cause diseases such as gastritis or stomach cancer. As part of an international research team, scientists from Jülich used neutrons to decode the function of an important enzyme in the metabolism of the pathogen, which is regarded as a target for new drugs.
