Forschungszentrum Jülich Becomes Part of Helmholtz Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Unit

Jülich/Berlin, 26 March 2019 – The Helmholtz Association is establishing a research platform for artificial intelligence and machine learning to analyse complex data from fields as diverse as climate research and health research. Germany’s largest research organization is investing € 11.4 million annually in the Helmholtz Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Unit (HAICU). As one of five “local units” of the platform, Forschungszentrum Jülich will be responsible for the area of key technologies/information.

The foundation of this unit will be the close collaboration between the Institute of Neuroscience and Medicine (INM) and the Jülich Supercomputing Centre (JSC) in the fields of brain research and supercomputing. HAICU’s central unit will be situated at Helmholtz Zentrum München; alongside Jülich, four other Helmholtz centres will act as local units with a focus on different areas of research.
