A Particle Accelerator for Senior School Classes
Jülich, 23 April 2019 – How does a particle accelerator work? What can I investigate with it? And how do I teach all this to my students during physics classes? The JuTron project launched in 2017 by the Jülich schools laboratory (JuLab) is seeking to provide answers to these questions together with the Nuclear Physics Institute.
During a recent visit, Walter Woltery, chief inspector of schools for the Cologne district government, and Guido Opheys, department head at North Rhine-Westphalia’s ministry for schools and education, found out more about the project which aims to develop a cyclotron for learning purposes. They also took a detour to the full-sized original, Jülich’s particle accelerator COSY. JuTron is expected to be on the curriculum of schools for the first time in 2021.
