New Value Confirmed for Hyperon Decay Parameter

Jülich, 7 November 2019 – The Review of Particle Physics is widely regarded as the standard reference work for elementary particle physics. Recent measurements performed on China’s BEPC storage ring therefore caused quite a stir among physicists by suggesting that one of the values in this work requires correction, and should be increased by some 17 %.

Researchers from Bonn, Glasgow, Washington, and Jülich have now investigated this result using an independent method – relating to the decay parameter of the lambda hyperon – and have confirmed that the value is much higher.
