On 1 May 2025, Daniela Wirtz succeeded Dr. Stephanie Bauer as the new head of Project Management Jülich (PtJ). Wirtz has been head of the PtJ business area “Research and Society NRW” since December 2021. The latter encompasses the two Jülich divisions “Energy, Technology, Sustainability” and “Technological and Regional Innovations” with a total of around 230 employees.

Wirtz studied economic geography at RWTH Aachen University before working in the field of consulting. From 2009, she worked in project management at TÜV Rheinland, starting out as a research assistant and subsequently gaining management experience in various functions. She was responsible for project management in the field of mobility and transport for various German federal ministries before joining PtJ in 2021.

Since 1 January 2025, Wirtz has been steering the ship as acting head of PtJ, a role she has fulfilled alongside the two other business area heads Dr. Dirk Bessau (Energy and Climate) and Michael Weber (Sustainable Development and Innovation). Until a new head of Research and Society NRW is appointed, Wirtz will take on this role on an interim basis and will continue to be supported in her tasks as PtJ head by Dr. Dirk Bessau and Michael Weber.
