Functionally Specific Areas of the Brain Take Longer to Grow than Assumed

Jülich, 18 January 2017 – What influence do childhood developments have on nervous tissue in the brain? In contrast to previous assumptions, tissue continues to grow in certain regions of the brain in young adults. This is shown by a study now published in the journal Science. "There is a close relationship between tissue structure and our ability to recognize faces," explains Prof. Katrin Amunts, director at the Jülich Institute of Neuroscience and Medicine.
