Focus on Molecular Wires
Jülich researchers lay the foundation for tailor-made components in nanoelectronics
Jülich, 11 April 2011 – A single molecule as an electronic component: in nanoelectronics, this idea is a vision that scientists are working towards. Together with colleagues from Dresden and Osnabrück, Jülich researchers have now investigated the conductance of a prototype molecular wire. Their experiments revealed that previous theoretical assumptions do not adequately describe current conduction through molecules, as they report in the journal “Physical Review B”. However, suitable models are required in order to be able to predict which molecules could be used for nanowires or could help to customize them. (Original article: DOI: 10.1103/PhysRevB.83.155402)
