Electrochemistry on the Atomic Level

Scientists from Jülich, Aachen and Japan observed the formation of new phases on the surface of a superconductor.

Jülich, 29 April 2012. Researchers from Jülich, Aachen and Tsukuba in Japan present a new way of studying electrochemical processes on the atomic scale. This method could help to improve the energy efficiency of such systems. In future, electrochemical systems will enable a new form of fast and energy-saving storage in information technology. The methodology also opens up new possibilities for investigating and optimizing systems such as fuel cells, batteries, chemical sensors and catalysts. The results have been published in the current issue of the high-impact journal Nature Materials (DOI: 10.1038/NMAT3307).
