Feasibility Study: Test Stand for Next Generation of Wind Turbines
Jülich, 2 May 2013 – The trend in wind power is moving towards increasingly higher and larger rotors, as they use the available wind energy more effectively. Moreover, increasingly larger turbines with higher output are being constructed. With a power of 10 to 20 MW, they are capable of generating almost ten times as much electricity as systems commonly used today, but also pose greater technical challenges. In order to support enterprises and research institutions in the development of suitable drive trains, Forschungszentrum Jülich is assessing the construction and operation of a large-scale test stand for wind turbine components, in particular their transmission.
