50 Years of Research for the Safe Final Disposal of Radioactive Waste

Talks open to the general public on 14 October 2013 at 10:00–12:45 in SuperC, RWTH Aachen University

Jülich, 7 October 2013 – For more than fifty years, scientists at Jülich have been exploring how radioactive waste in Germany can be safely disposed of. Fuel waste remains radioactive for up to a million years. Institute director Prof. Dirk Bosbach will explain at the event in Aachen’s SuperC how scientific approaches can be used to make deductions about such long periods of time. The final disposal debate also has a sociological dimension to it, which will be dealt with by guest speaker Diana Gallego Carrera, M.A., from the Center for Interdisciplinary Risk and Innovation Studies (ZIRIUS) at the University of Stuttgart.
