Fast, Inexpensive Diagnosis of Diseases

New sensor will analyse blood directly on the spot

Jülich, 8 October 2013 – Diagnosing malaria with a smartphone – this, in a nutshell, is the goal of a new research project at Forschungszentrum Jülich. The researchers are developing a sensor that will enable blood tests – to check for infection, for example – to be carried out directly on the spot, quickly and cheaply. The project has received funding from the Helmholtz Validation Fund. The Helmholtz Association uses this funding instrument to support the translation of scientific findings into industrial application.
