DFG Funds Open Access Transition Project

Collaboration between library consortium and Thieme

Jülich/Stuttgart, 25 March 2019 – The Thieme Group has signed a transition agreement with ZB MED – Information Centre for Life Sciences, Forschungszentrum Jülich, and 13 other specialist libraries. In doing so, the project partners have shown that it is possible to conclude pioneering agreements for all parties beyond major projects such as DEAL. Within the scope of a first pilot project, authors at participating institutions will initially have the opportunity to publish original work open access in the internationally renowned Thieme journal Hormone and Metabolic Research at no additional cost. The licence fee, which libraries previously paid to the publisher to use the journal, will increasingly be replaced by a publication fee as part of the five-year agreement. The German Research Foundation (DFG) is funding the project as part of the Licences for Digital Content funding programme, into which additional journals might also be incorporated.
