Brief description of the programme
RISE stands for Research Internships in Science and Engineering. RISE Germany offers undergraduate students from North American (USA, Canada), British and Irish universities the opportunity to complete a summer research internship at top German universities and research institutions. In this program, doctoral researchers take over the supervision of the scholarship holders.
Who can participate?
PhD researchers can act as mentors for international interns by offering and supervising a research project.
What are the benefits?
- For doctoral researchers: Gain international mentoring experience and support in the lab during the summer months.
- For research groups: Build global academic networks and strengthen international visibility.
- For institutions: Promote international cooperation and attract future talent.
Interns are funded by DAAD and typically stay for about three months. The working language is English, and no German skills are required.
How does the process work?
- Doctoral researchers create and submit a project description via the DAAD portal.
- Interested students apply to specific projects.
- After a selection process, matches are confirmed by the DAAD and hosting institutions.
