Brief description of the programme

The German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR) supports early career scientists (2-5 years after PhD) in starting their own research group in the field of battery technology. Applicants can be funded with up to 2.15 Mio. Euro for a period of up to five years.

The funding aims to advance the development of ecologically and economically sustainable secondary batteries along their value chain with a view to the circular economy. Against this background, project ideas can be submitted for the following main research areas:

  • materials and production process research
  • scaling research and digitalisation
  • resource-saving battery cycles
  • promising technology variants of the future

Other aspects may also be the subject of research, provided that industrial relevance is demonstrated.

The programme is open to all applicants who have experience in the field of battery technology, international applicants wanting to return to or permanently work in Germany are particularly invited to apply.

All information is provided in German but international applicants can submit their project proposal in English. When considering an application, please contact Mr. Pokraka to discuss a possible prior consultation with the board.

Please note: The dates of calls might change throughout the year. When you save them to your calendar, your calendar will not show the changed dates. Please visit the funding calendar regularly or use our Live Funding Calendar to check for any changes. You can also find the link to our Live Calendar in the summary of the downloaded call.
