Work experience and placements
Work experience and placements are possible in all areas of Forschungszentrum Jülich: in the scientific institutes as well as the technical and administrative infrastructure.Whether students receive remuneration depends on the type of work experience or placement, its duration and scope, and the individual projects worked on during the stay at Jülich. Vocational training
Forschungszentrum Jülich currently offers vocational training in 26 occupations, primarily in the areas of science, business management, and technology. Training takes between two and three-and-a-half years, depending on the programme. The theory is taught at vocational schools in Jülich, Stolberg, Aachen, and Düren.In addition to standard training components, Forschungszentrum Jülich also conveys additional subject-specific knowledge and know-how for each of the occupations in which it provides training. The training curriculum includes overarching elements, such as in the area of quality management.In order to give trainees a successful start in the working world, Forschungszentrum Jülich offers those who complete their training employment for a period of three or six months – depending on their examination results. This enables them to inform themselves on the job market and apply for suitable positions – including vacancies at Forschungszentrum Jülich.

Dual study programmes
Together with neighbouring universities, Forschungszentrum Jülich offers dual study programmes in science, business management, and technology. These dual study programmes combine thorough vocational training at Jülich, for example as a mathematical-technical software developer (MATSE), with a bachelor’s degree from a university of applied science, such as a Bachelor of Science in Scientific Programming.Six dual-study programmes are currently offered by Forschungszentrum Jülich. Their duration and programme vary depending on the university course.

One-day and holiday courses at the JuLab Schools Laboratory
The foundation for an interest in scientific and technical subjects is laid in childhood. Jülich’s programme for supporting young talent therefore starts at this early stage. Activities for children and adolescents are combined by Forschungszentrum Jülich under the name of juelich_impulse.

School students can carry out experiments on different topics at the JuLab Schools Laboratory and familiarize themselves with the fundamental principles of scientific work in a hands-on approach. JuLab offers one-day courses in scientific subjects for school groups from classes 4–13 at all regular types of school. In addition, children can participate in (Grand)Parent and Child Days together with their parents or grandparents. These are aimed at children between the ages of 5 and 10.
