Better insights through collaboration

At Jülich, we like to collaborate with researchers who are driven by the same fascination as we are: the desire to gain new insights in order to solve the major challenges facing society. Our collaborations not only provide us with an inspiring exchange of ideas, but also help us to build research infrastructures that are unique in the world. We want our research to have an impact: in collaborations with industry, we transfer our findings into practical applications.

Strong alliances with excellent universities

To overcome the insularity of university and non-university research, we were one of the first research centres to enter into a partnership with a university in 2007. As part of the Jülich Aachen Research Alliance (JARA), we are collaborating with the “excellence university” RWTH Aachen University to find solutions to the major challenges of the future. Forschungszentrum Jülich also maintains strong alliances and joint institutes with other regional partner universities, in particular the Rhineland universities in Bonn, Cologne, and Düsseldorf. Our partners also include the French Commissariat à l'Énergie Atomique et aux Énergies Alternatives (CEA), the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) in the USA, and the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in China.

Scientists with good ideas need partners to help them set up companies – people with access to funding, a good business sense, and a strong network.

International and national collaborations

Large research projects benefit from collaboration. That is why Forschungszentrum Jülich cooperates with partners not only in Germany, but also at EU level and around the world. We are involved in numerous national and international research projects. A number of research networks are coordinated by Forschungszentrum Jülich. We are convinced that scientific exchange and a broad perspective lead to innovative results.

Cooperation with industry to achieve user-centric research

We want our research to be translated into practical applications. That is why we collaborate with a large number of companies in Germany and abroad, for example to develop unique devices and methods. As a partner of industry, we participate in joint projects, strategic development partnerships, and other alliances. We are also involved in the Helmholtz Innovation Labs, which are funded by the Helmholtz Association and in which close interaction between science, industry (small and medium-sized enterprises as well as consolidated companies), and users takes place at an early stage.
