We attach great importance to a fair and transparent application process. We are aware that international applicants sometimes face particular challenges – for example, cultural differences, insecurities about standardized application procedures in Germany, unconscious biases, or structural barriers. We have targeted measures in place to actively promote equal opportunities throughout the entire application process:
Language requirements
A knowledge of English is required for almost all positions.
Knowledge of German is often not required for scientific positions. For positions in administrative and technical fields, as well as in science management, however, knowledge of German is often required.
The job advertisement contains information about the language skills required for the respective position in the requirements profile.
Applying remotely
You can start the application process from abroad. Interviews are also often conducted online via video. However, we expect you to be present in Germany on your first day of work and, thereafter, on a regular basis as agreed with your manager. Forschungszentrum Jülich does not offer fully remote jobs.
Diversity statement
“We welcome applications from people with diverse backgrounds, e.g. in terms of age, gender, disability, sexual orientation/identity, and social, ethnic and religious origin. A diverse and inclusive working environment with equal opportunities in which everyone can realize their potential is important to us.”
You will find this diversity statement in all of our job advertisements. We aim to continuously promote diversity und interculturality among our employees.
Measures for a fair procedure
Unconscious thought patterns, particularly regarding national stereotypes, can also influence application decisions without people realizing this. To counteract this issue, we offer unconscious bias training for all employees involved in job application processes and we raise awareness of this issue during the selection processes.
Your application will be reviewed by the relevant leaders. During the application process, we use standardized interview templates to ensure a fair process for all participants. Interviews are evaluated using an evaluation matrix with standardized criteria for all applicants.
Open Positions
Start your career at Forschungszentrum Jülich: whether you’re looking for a work placement, an apprenticeship, a dual study programme, a doctorate, a research position, or the chance to support research by working in administrative or technical roles – we offer a wide range of opportunities. Become part of an international research environment!
Application and selection process
The institutes determine how the selection process is structured. Requests can be made to conduct the entire application and selection process remotely. The selection process may include a short video interview as part of a pre-selection round and will always involve an in-depth interview (virtual or in person).
Interviews at Forschungszentrum Jülich are conducted on an equal footing and are intended to help both employer and job applicant reach a decision.
We want to get to know you and ask you about your career, expertise, and soft skills. The selection process may also include a practical element or presentation. You will receive more detailed information during the application process.
You will have the opportunity during the interview to ask any questions you may have and learn more about the advertised position and where you will work. In the case of scientific positions, you often have an opportunity to visit the laboratories following the interview.
Foreign university degrees
If you have a university degree from abroad, you may need proof of recognition for employment in Germany. The proof of recognition could be requested during the selection process. Once you have accepted a job offer from Forschungszentrum Jülich, we will conduct an official review.
Further general information is given by the Central Office for Foreign Education (ZAB). The database provides information on the evaluation of foreign educational qualifications and supports authorities, employers, and private individuals in classifying foreign qualifications within the German education system. Are you curious to know if your foreign university degree is recognized in Germany? You can check whether your degree has been assessed and is recognized with the help of the instructions from Make it in Germany.
