ABC/J Young Academics Award 2019 awarded to early career scientists
This year, young scientists from the University of Bonn and the University of Cologne received the ABC/J Young Academics Award for outstanding, innovative and interdisciplinary research in the geosciences and geography.
During the ABC/J Summer Festival on July 5, 2019 in Cologne, Germany, Dr. Jessica Keune of the Bonn Institute of Geosciences (Department of Meteorology) was awarded first prize for her dissertation on Integrated terrestrial simulations at the continental scale: Impact of groundwater dynamics and human water use on groundwater-to-atmosphere feedbacks during the European heatwave in 2003.
Further prizes were awarded to Dr. Melanie Bartz (2nd prize) from the Institute of Geography at the University of Cologne for her research work entitled Quaternary fluvial environments in NE Morocco inferred from geochronological and sedimento-logical investigations and Dr. Maximilian Weigand (3rd prize) from the Bonn Institute of Geosciences (Department of Geophysics) for his dissertation on Monitoring structural and physiological properties of crop roots using spectral electrical impedance tomography.
The promotion of early career scientists is a special concern of Geoverbund ABC/J; for this reason the Geoverbund awards its Young Academics Award once a year. The subject of the competition is research on a geoscientific or geographical topic; dissertations or publications may be submitted.
