New Institute of Bio- and Geosciences

Jülich, 11 March – Becoming an innovator and pacemaker and shaping the bioeconomy – these are the aims of the Jülich Institute of Bio- and Geosciences (IBG) founded last November. It includes the two former Institutes of Biotechnology (IBT-1 and IBT-2) as well as Jülich plant and soil research formerly located at the Institute of Chemistry and Dynamics of the Geosphere (ICG-3 and ICG-4). Today, the almost 350 employees of the new institute celebrated their unification with a colloquium. At this occasion, Dr. Henk van Liempt, the official speaker and head of the Bioeconomy Division at the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, presented the Federal Government's plans for this research field.
