First Meeting of the Scientific Advisory Council

Jülich, 21 November 2013. As of 2013, Forschungszentrum Jülich receives advice from a Scientific Advisory Council composed of members from science and industry in order to evaluate its research strategy in an international context. The members of the Council came together at Forschungszentrum Jülich today for their constituent meeting. During the meeting, they engaged in intensive discussions on Forschungszentrum Jülich’s energy concept, its cooperations with universities and other research institutions, and its position within the Helmholtz Association’s programme-oriented funding (PoF). Forschungszentrum Jülich hopes that the Council’s recommendations will play a major part in safeguarding and developing Jülich’s strategic focus and resources. Furthermore, the Council members are important ambassadors for Forschungszentrum Jülich’s public profile.

The Scientific Advisory Council is an international committee whose twelve high-ranking members represent universities, research, and industry from six countries spread over two continents. The Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Council is Dr. Heike Riel, a semiconductor physicist and the recipient of numerous accolades, who works as a scientist in the field of nanoscale electronics at IBM Research in Zurich. In addition to Dr. Riel, five further women scientists have been appointed to the Council.
