Nuclear Disarmament in Focus
Experts Test Monitoring Procedures at Jülich again
Jülich, 5 April 2022 – Due to the ongoing war in Ukraine, the issue of nuclear weapons has once again come into focus. Many countries were and continue to be focused on the objective of nuclear disarmament. Effective verification work is crucial to nuclear disarmament, but it is also associated with a large number of technical challenges. How can it be ensured that a nuclear warhead has been destroyed if inspectors are not permitted access to weapons systems? International experts have developed procedures to tackle this problem. Having previously met in 2019, they are now gathering at Forschungszentrum Jülich once again to conduct an exercise under French–German leadership that will test these procedures on a simulated warhead under conditions that are as realistic as possible.
