Exciting Contact

Jülich, 14 May 2018 – Researchers have known for decades that an applied voltage between two objects can lead to them sticking together. This effect has recently gained a great deal of interest from science and industry – for state-of-the-art applications such as robot arms and touchscreens. Jülich physicist Bo Persson has now studied the theoretical basis of the phenomenon more closely. His work, which was published in the Journal of Chemical Physics, has been selected as a Science Highlight by the American Institute of Physics.
