ERC Starting Grant for Dr. Pitter Huesgen

Dr. Pitter Huesgen received his ERC Starting Grant for the ProPlantStress project, which aims to obtain an unbiased, large-scale view of proteolytic processes in plants and their role in the abiotic and biotic stress responses of plants. To this end it will employ novel positional proteomics approaches that enable selective enrichment, identification and quantitation of protein N- or C-termini. Collectively also termed "degradomics", these methods reveal proteolytic processes, cleavage sites and protease substrate repertoires on a proteome-wide scale. Huesgen conducts his research at the Central Institute for Engineering, Electronics and Analytics – Analytics (ZEA-3).
