Dr. Nicolas Peter at Science Online+: “Materials Research - Tiny Interfaces” - Watch the Recording

24. Oktober 2024

In almost all materials that surround us in everyday life, there are interfaces - transitions where different or identical materials meet. A deep understanding of these interfaces is crucial to explain and precisely influence the behaviour of these materials. In his lecture, Dr. Nicolas Peter shows what types of interfaces exist and how we can visualize them down to the position of individual atoms using state-of-the-art electron microscopy. Such high-precision ‘border controls’ at the atomic level allow us to understand the properties of these materials better and develop innovative solutions to technological challenges. Studying these tiny but crucial structures is important for science and has implications for our daily lives, including more powerful electronic devices and new construction and energy materials.
