"Science": GMR Effect 2.0 for Future Orbitronics Devices

An international research team has shown in Science how magnetic states can be read out electrically using the orbital angular momentum of electrons. Jülich researchers contributed to this milestone in orbitronics, opening a new route for future electronic devices.

Researchers at Forschungszentrum Jülich and the University of Bayreuth have uncovered how certain light-sensitive enzymes transmit signals in bacteria. The findings could help develop new tools for controlling biological processes, with potential applications in biotechnology and medical research.

Our 3 strategic research priorities

Information

The priority of information combines Jülich research in three areas: simulation and data science in high-performance-computing (HPC), brain research, and research on bio- and nanoelectronic information technologies of the future. Quantum technologies are another priority at Jülich.

Energy and climate

Jülich energy research concentrates on an energy system based on renewable energy. Scientists research technologies on all scales – from the atomic level right up to industrial innovations – covering the entire value chain from basic to applied research.

Bioeconomy

The sustainable bioeconomy is a biobased circular economy that does away with fossil resources and utilizes renewable resources instead. Scientists from Forschungszentrum Jülich are developing new value creation processes.
