What is presented?

How do lithium and hydrogen move in batteries and fuel cells? These are two of countless questions in the field of energy materials that urgently need neutrons to find answers.

Prof Zobel gives an introduction and overview of exciting research questions with neutrons in the field of energy materials and shows where such research is still possible in Europe. From chemical engineer to neutron researcher - a plea for why modern materials research needs large-scale research and new neutron sources.

Background:

Since 1 January 2024, Mirijam Zobel has been Director of the Neutron Analytics for Energy Research (JCNS-3) division at the Jülich Centre for Neutron Science. She also holds a chair in crystallography at RWTH Aachen University.
