Better Detection of Brain Tumours

Jülich Development Receives US Approval

A substance developed at Forschungszentrum Jülich, which is used to detect brain tumours has overcome an important regulatory hurdle in the US: the US Food and Drug Administration has approved the drug 18F-fluoroethyl-L-tyrosine – FET, for short – for certain diagnostic applications for glioma.

Natural protection for pizza salami

Researchers at Forschungszentrum Jülich, working together with partners, have developed an automated method for rapidly and precisely testing natural microorganisms for their protective properties. The technology was instrumental in developing a new starter culture that naturally protects pizza salami against Listeria and extends its shelf life. The culture is already being used in industrial production.

Motion analysis

Software Makes It Possible to Compare the Movements of Flies, Mice, and Humans

How can the movements of fruit flies, mice, and humans be compared? Researchers from Jülich and Cologne have developed the open-source software AutoGaitA for this purpose. It analyzes movement data from different species using the same criteria and reveals common patterns — even as they age. The results have been published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS).

Information

The priority of information combines Jülich research in three areas: simulation and data science in high-performance-computing (HPC), brain research, and research on bio- and nanoelectronic information technologies of the future. Quantum technologies are another priority at Jülich.

Energy and climate

Jülich energy research concentrates on an energy system based on renewable energy. Scientists research technologies on all scales – from the atomic level right up to industrial innovations – covering the entire value chain from basic to applied research.

Bioeconomy

The sustainable bioeconomy is a biobased circular economy that does away with fossil resources and utilizes renewable resources instead. Scientists from Forschungszentrum Jülich are developing new value creation processes.
