New Insights

Understanding complex brain functions by studying a rare brain disease

How the human brain learns and stores memories is among the most intricate capabilities of the human brain, and plays an essential role in everyday life. The molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying these complex features remain insufficiently understood. A collaborative research team from Jülich has obtained novel insights.

Networking Event

Spotlight on Women in Electron Microscopy (WeM) – Exchange and Networking event

From 8 to 10 October 2025, the international networking event “Women in Electron Microscopy” (WeM) took place on the Jülich campus. The Ernst Ruska-Centre (ER-C) at Forschungszentrum Jülich launched the conference to increase the visibility of women in electron microscopy and to promote the next generation of female scientists.

2025 Nobel Prize in Physics

Congratulations to John Clarke, Michel H. Devoret and John M. Martinis

The Nobel Committee honours their pioneering experiments on superconducting circuits, which revealed quantum phenomena on a macroscopic scale. Here at Forschungszentrum Jülich, we are building on these achievements by developing quantum computers and JUNIQ, the world’s first quantum computing infrastructure providing researchers and industry users with access to a variety of quantum systems.

Information

The priority of information combines Jülich research in three areas: simulation and data science in high-performance-computing (HPC), brain research, and research on bio- and nanoelectronic information technologies of the future. Quantum technologies are another priority at Jülich.

Energy

Jülich energy research concentrates on an energy system based on renewable energy. Scientists research technologies on all scales – from the atomic level right up to industrial innovations – covering the entire value chain from basic to applied research.

Bioeconomy

The sustainable bioeconomy is a biobased circular economy that does away with fossil resources and utilizes renewable resources instead. Scientists from Forschungszentrum Jülich are developing new value creation processes.
