All About the Brain: Two ERC Starting Grants for Jülich Researchers

Dr. Viviana Rincón Montes and Dr. Casey Paquola from Forschungszentrum Jülich have each been awarded an ERC Starting Grant. In their projects, they are exploring new ways of integrating brain implants into nerve tissue and of improving how we understand and predict mental health conditions in adolescence using patterns of individual brain development.

Researchers film the first moments on the way from light to electricity

Physicists at Forschungszentrum Jülich, in collaboration with colleagues from the University of Graz and Marburg University, have achieved a scientific breakthrough. For the first time, the generation of electrical energy from light has been filmed and described theoretically.

Our 3 strategic research priorities

Information

The priority of information combines Jülich research in three areas: simulation and data science in high-performance-computing (HPC), brain research, and research on bio- and nanoelectronic information technologies of the future. Quantum technologies are another priority at Jülich.

Energy and climate

Jülich energy research concentrates on an energy system based on renewable energy. Scientists research technologies on all scales – from the atomic level right up to industrial innovations – covering the entire value chain from basic to applied research.

Bioeconomy

The sustainable bioeconomy is a biobased circular economy that does away with fossil resources and utilizes renewable resources instead. Scientists from Forschungszentrum Jülich are developing new value creation processes.
