Queer in Science 2025

On September 2, 2025, we held our online event “Queer in Science” – it was an inspiring morning full of exchange, perspectives, and moments of encouragement.

In an open panel discussion, four queer colleagues from science and science management shared their personal experiences.

Topics:

  • The importance of role models and networks for visibility and support
  • Dealing with experiences of discrimination and helpful coping strategies
  • Concrete measures that research institutions can take to create an inclusive and safe working environment

The importance of visible role models, strong networks, and an open culture of support was emphasized. Visibility and solidarity are crucial for everyone to reach their potential. Our participants also contributed valuable perspectives through surveys, comments, and the chat.

The discussion was impressively captured in a graphic recording that visually summarizes the central ideas and messages—a creative reflection of this enriching exchange.

Four graphically depicted individuals are shown above the title Queer in Science. Surrounding them are words such as experienced discrimination & coping strategies, role models & networks, and what make attractive working conditions for queer people. Hopes for the next five years were also recorded. This graphic recording reflects the central ideas and messages of the event's discussion panel.

If you are interested in a visiting program or online event with queer role models, please contact us. For a visit, it is ideal if the group size is at least 15 people.
