Happy holidays and a happy new year!

2025 was a memorable year for Forschungszentrum Jülich: with the inauguration of the JUPITER exascale supercomputer and the Day of Curiosity, which attracted more than 22,000 guests to Jülich, the research center made two strong statements. And that was just the beginning—the year was also marked by excellent research, globally unique infrastructure, and prestigious awards and publications. We look back with pride on what we have achieved and look forward to the challenges of the coming year!

This review highlights some of the highlights and milestones that shaped 2025 at Forschungszentrum Jülich.

Christmas card 2025

This year's Christmas card from Forschungszentrum Jülich shows a special milestone from the past year: JUPITER, Europe's first exascale supercomputer, was officially inaugurated in September 2025 – marking the start of a new era in research.

The photo offers a glimpse into his home: the Modular Data Center, a modern, modular high-performance data center—around 50 container modules assembled into a precisely orchestrated whole, over 2,300 square meters full of technological expertise, energy, and computing power.

And this power is breathtaking: JUPITER is the first system in Europe to exceed the threshold of more than one trillion computing operations per second. A number that is almost impossible to comprehend – and yet has a very concrete effect: JUPITER will help researchers advance artificial intelligence more quickly, calculate complex simulations more realistically, and analyze enormous amounts of data.

No tinsel, no candles—but a promising glow in a workshop of the future, where computing time is turned into knowledge.
