Access to patents

Intel is far from an unknown when it comes to driving digitalization forward. With its microprocessors, the US industry giant has changed the world. Similarly, Forschungszentrum Jülich stands for technologies that could revolutionize our everyday lives.

The strategic partnership is a perfect symbiosis: Forschungszentrum Jülich provides Intel with simplified and accelerated access to its patents in the fields of digitalization and information processing.

This, in turn, enables Intel to quickly and effectively test their technological potential in market-ready products. The partnership is meant to act as a turbo boost for innovations in the fields shaping our future.

Open to other partners

The agreement does not restrict technology transfer. The research center is free to license its patents to other partners as well. "We want these technologies to be used not just by one company, but to bring broad benefits to society and the economy," says Dr. Marck Lumeij, team leader and innovation manager at the research center.

In times of climate change, digital transformation, and the energy transition, it is crucial to rapidly develop new technologies and bring them to life. The partnership between Jülich and Intel demonstrates how innovation processes can be accelerated — not only through new products but also through simplified and future-proof frameworks.

»It’s not about reinventing the wheel — it’s about getting the wheels rolling with the right partners.«

New models

Through this collaboration, Jülich is simultaneously testing new models for intellectual property partnerships with other companies. “It’s not about reinventing the wheel with every partner — it’s about getting the wheels rolling together with the right partners,” says Dr. Christian Cremer, Head of the Innovation Division at the research center. “We are convinced that the path to successful innovations from science can only be achieved through close cooperation between research institutions and companies.”
