Master thesis: Model parameterization for soil-root interactions

The Institute of Bio- and Geosciences – Agrosphere (IBG-3) conducts research to improve our understanding of hydrological and biogeochemical processes in terrestrial systems. A combination of experiments, modelling, and innovative observation technologies is used to bridge the gap between model, process, and management scale. Our research contributes to the sustainable and resource- conserving use of soils and water and to the quantification of the effect of climate and land use change on terrestrial ecosystems.

Your Job:
This Master thesis is a part of the BMBF-funded project “Soil3” on sustainable subsoil management. Your tasks include:

  • Investigate subsoil management effects on plant performance
  • Contribute to model simulations, pre- and postprocessing
  • Support model parameterization based on experimental data created within the consortium, including:

    • Soil sorption parameters
    • Soil hydraulic properties
    • Root architecture parameters

Your Profile:

  • Highly motivated student in soil science or related discipline
  • Ability to work independently and analytically within a project team
  • Interest in mathematical modelling
