Biotechnology

Antiviral Molecules in Bacteria

Researchers at Forschungszentrum Jülich, in collaboration with partners from Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf, as well as from Marburg and Zurich, have shed light on the mechanism of action of the natural compound daunorubicin. The team was able to demonstrate how the molecule prevents the replication of bacteriophages—viruses that infect bacteria.

AI identifies scientific novelty: Jülich team wins international challenge

A research team from Forschungszentrum Jülich has won the international “Metascience Novelty Indicators Challenge”. The scientists at Juelichat Jülich Systems Analysis Systems Analysis developed a method that enables artificial intelligence to assess the novelty of scientific publications.

Accounting for Clouds in Climate-Friendly Aviation

How can aviation effectively reduce its climate impact while simultaneously achieving the goal of climate-neutral air transport by 2050? This question was the focus of the second ICAO Aviation Climate Week, which took place from June 2 to 4 in Montreal. Jülich researchers presented new insights into the climate impact of contrails and climate-optimized flight routes

Information

The priority of information combines Jülich research in three areas: simulation and data science in high-performance-computing (HPC), brain research, and research on bio- and nanoelectronic information technologies of the future. Quantum technologies are another priority at Jülich.

Energy

Jülich energy research concentrates on an energy system based on renewable energy. Scientists research technologies on all scales – from the atomic level right up to industrial innovations – covering the entire value chain from basic to applied research.

Bioeconomy

The sustainable bioeconomy is a biobased circular economy that does away with fossil resources and utilizes renewable resources instead. Scientists from Forschungszentrum Jülich are developing new value creation processes.
