Leadership Team at Jülich’s Institute INW is Complete

The founding phase of the Institute for a Sustainable Hydrogen Economy (INW) at Forschungszentrum Jülich has been completed. Prof. Peter Wasserscheid took on the role of director of the institute division Reaction Engineering for Chemical Hydrogen Storage (INW-3) in May. INW’s four scientific institute divisions are now headed by renowned researchers.

New Prospects for Green Ammonia

Ammonia, one of the most widely produced chemicals worldwide, is essential for the fertilizer industry and, in turn, the production of plant-based foods. However, its production is expensive and and causes high emissions. A research team has conducted a study simulating what a reactor would need to look like to produce ammonia in a cost-effective, environmentally friendly manner.

Computer chips

Cool Computing – Why the Future of Electronics Could Lie in the Cold

Modern computer chips generate a lot of heat – and consume large amounts of energy as a result. A promising approach to reducing this energy demand could lie in the cold, as highlighted by a new perspective article by an international research team coordinated by Qing-Tai Zhao from Forschungszentrum Jülich. Savings could reach as high as 80 percent, according to the researchers.

The priority of information combines Jülich research in three areas: simulation and data science in high-performance-computing (HPC), brain research, and research on bio- and nanoelectronic information technologies of the future. Quantum technologies are another priority at Jülich.

Jülich energy research concentrates on an energy system based on renewable energy. Scientists research technologies on all scales – from the atomic level right up to industrial innovations – covering the entire value chain from basic to applied research.

Bioeconomy

The sustainable bioeconomy is a biobased circular economy that does away with fossil resources and utilizes renewable resources instead. Scientists from Forschungszentrum Jülich are developing new value creation processes.
