Awards for Outstanding Research in Biotechnology and Agricultural Sciences

Through their doctoral theses, Laura Helleckes and Felix Bauer have made significant contributions to biotechnology and plant research, respectively. They have each been awarded the 2026 Jülich Excellence Prize in recognition of their outstanding scientific achievements.

James Eills honoured with Felix Bloch Lecture

Dr James Eills of Forschungszentrum Jülich has been awarded the Felix Bloch Lecture by the Division of Magnetic Resonance of the German Chemical Society (GDCh). The award recognises his pioneering work on parahydrogen-induced hyperpolarisation.

Hydrogen expert Peter Wasserscheid Receives Archimedes Science Award

For his work in the field of hydrogen technologies, Prof. Peter Wasserscheid was honored on September 9, 2026, by receiving the 2026 Archimedes Science Award. The EUR 50,000 accolade was presented in Dresden under the auspices of TUD Dresden University of Technology by the Free State of Saxony and the DRESDEN-concept Science and Innovation Alliance.

Our 3 strategic research priorities

Information

The priority of information combines Jülich research in three areas: simulation and data science in high-performance-computing (HPC), brain research, and research on bio- and nanoelectronic information technologies of the future. Quantum technologies are another priority at Jülich.

Energy and climate

Jülich energy research concentrates on an energy system based on renewable energy. Scientists research technologies on all scales – from the atomic level right up to industrial innovations – covering the entire value chain from basic to applied research.

Bioeconomy

The sustainable bioeconomy is a biobased circular economy that does away with fossil resources and utilizes renewable resources instead. Scientists from Forschungszentrum Jülich are developing new value creation processes.

As a founding member of the Helmholtz Association, we are part of the largest German research organization and contribute our top-class expertise to four of the six Helmholtz Research Fields: Energy, Matter, Information, and Earth & Environment.

The ‘Jülich UNified Infrastructure for Quantum computing’, or JUNIQ for short, is the world's first quantum computing infrastructure to offer users from science and industry access to a variety of quantum systems at different stages of development.
